A multifaceted French cellist, David Louwerse is passionate about musical creation in all its forms.
He holds a Premier Prix with unanimous distinction in both cello and chamber music from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, as well as the Lucy G. Moses Award from Yale University.
He is currently the cellist of Ensemble Variances, under the artistic direction of composer Thierry Pécou, and performs — or has performed — as a soloist and chamber musician in France at venues and festivals including the Opéra de Lyon, Maison de la Radio France, Arsenal de Metz, Lille Piano Festival, Détours de Babel in Grenoble, Journées Musicales de Dieulefit, Festival Flam’ in Blaye, Théâtre des Arts in Rouen, Rostropovich Auditorium in Paris, Ault en Musiques!, Offenbach Festival in Étretat, Nocturnes de la Cathédrale de Rouen, Ambronay Festival, and the Cathedrals of Riez and La Force.
In Canada and the United States, he has appeared at Bourgie Hall in Montreal, Music on Main in Vancouver, Quebec City, the Ottawa Chamber Festival, Bargemusic in New York, the Ferst Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Town Hall in Seattle, as well as in Los Angeles and Washington. In Asia, he has performed in Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Yilan.
He has also toured extensively throughout Europe, including Unerhôrte Musik in Berlin, Arabesque Festival in Hamburg, Heidelberg Festival, Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam (Berlin), Gregynog Music Festival, St John’s Smith Square in London, St George’s Church in Bristol, Brighton Festival, Lisinski Hall in Zagreb, Ossiach Festival in Villach (Austria), Utrecht, and Maastricht.
David Louwerse is also the Artistic Director of the Ault en Musiques! festival, held over five days in early July in the south of the Baie de Somme, the Musiqu’Eure festival in Évreux, and Les Musiciens de l’Instant, an association of musicians devoted to the art of chamber music.
He teaches cello at the Conservatories of the City of Paris, chamber music at Pôle Sup’93, and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
