Henri Vieuxtemps Days

Organised by the École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot in collaboration with the Embassy of Belgium, the Henri Vieuxtemps Days will take place on 5 and 6 October 2026. This special event aims to promote and celebrate the work of one of Belgium’s greatest 19th-century musicians, bringing his legacy to artists, students and the wider public.

On 5 October, the programme will feature three events:

  • 4:00 p.m.Lecture by Agnès Briolle-Vieuxtemps, musicologist, pianist and great-granddaughter of the composer, exploring his life, works and legacy (Salle Munch). REGISTRATION
  • 5:30 p.m.Viola masterclass by Pierre Lenert, Professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, dedicated to the works of Henri Vieuxtemps (Salle Cortot). REGISTRATION
  • 8:00 p.m.Recital by Pierre Lenert and Etsuko Hirose (Salle Cortot), celebrating Vieuxtemps’ remarkable contribution to the viola repertoire. REGISTRATION

These events offer students a unique opportunity to explore Henri Vieuxtemps’ artistic, pedagogical and musicological legacy while discovering his significant contribution to the history of the viola.

The Henri Vieuxtemps Days will continue on 6 October with a student recital by Pierre Lenert’s viola class in the School’s salons. Admission is free and open to all.
