Born in 1991 in Paris, Sharad Goulam began composing self-taught at the age of eight and conducted his first symphonies at fourteen, under the patronage of former Prime Minister Michel Rocard during his secondary studies at Lycée Louis-le-Grand.

A five-time graduate of the École Normale de Musique de Paris (in harmony, counterpoint, fugue, orchestration, and piano) and recipient of a merit scholarship, he studied there under Stéphane Delplace, Anthony Girard, Philippe Gantchoula, Jean-Marc Luisada, and Caroline Sageman.

He holds a PhD in mathematics from the École Normale Supérieure (2020), having also studied at the Faculty of Orsay and the École Polytechnique (Master’s level). He also holds Master’s degrees in engineering and philosophy.

Winner of the First Composition Prize at the 2025 Orient-Occident International Competition of the Lviv Philharmonic Society, the First Grand Prize at the 2023 Berlioz International Composition Competition, and the First Prize at the 2021 Composition Competition of the Orchestre et Chœur des Universités de Paris, he was also a laureate of the 2022 Coups de Vents International Orchestration Competition.

Sharad Goulam currently teaches music theory at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and music writing at the Conservatoires à Rayonnement Départemental of Pantin and Évry.
