Gilles de Talhouët learned the flute from Roger Bourdin. He completed his musical studies at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory and obtained a unanimous First Prize. At the same time, he discovered early instruments and began playing the traverso (Baroque transverse flute). He was accepted into the CNSMP (Pierre Séchet’s traverso class) and obtained his First Prize. He then furthered his studies with Barthold Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands).
Gilles de Talhouët has given numerous concerts as a soloist and chamber musician thanks to the support of the Beracasa and Menuhin Foundations and participated in tours organized by Jeunesses Musicales de France. He has performed and premiered numerous contemporary works as part of the Darmstadt Summer Courses (Germany) and is a laureate of the Kranichstein Music Prize
For three years, he participated in several productions and recordings with the orchestra Les Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski). He has performed with the ensembles Continuum and Philidor (early instrument), the Trio Diabelli (Romantic repertoire on period instruments), the Trio Lindaraja (20th-century music for flute, viola, and harp), and the Ensemble Utopik (contemporary music).
Gilles de Talhouët holds the Certificates of Aptitude in flute and early music and taught successively at the conservatories of Lille and Nantes. In 2003, he founded the flute ensemble “Aperto!”, which has given more than 250 concerts, notably every year at “La Folle Journée” in Nantes, performing both classical repertoire (from Bach to Bartók) and world music: Central Europe, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Greece, Brazil, etc
He recorded a CD of French music (Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Roussel, Caplet…) for the Alpha label which received praise from the press: “5 diapasons”, Diapason magazine 2006
