After winning First Prize at the Johannes Brahms International Competition in 2005, Geoffroy Couteau recorded the complete solo piano works of Brahms for the La Dolce Volta label. This recording caused a sensation, ranking among the best recordings of 2016. The entire specialized press recognized this discographic endeavor: Classica’s “Choc de l’année” (Shock of the Year), Télérama’s “FFFF” (Fourth Fifty-Five), Pianiste Maestro (Pianist Maestro), and the Radio Classique trophy. The international press also distinguished him with five stars from the German magazine FonoForum and the prestigious Geijtsu Record in Japan. German radio stations MDR and SWR praised his playing and personality. Le Monde, Le Figaro, L’Express, and Les Échos raved about the quality of his interpretation and the depth of his commitment.

Geoffroy Couteau then embarked on recording the complete chamber music of Brahms with piano. This project has garnered the highest accolades through its various publications: Diapason d’Or awards, Télérama’s FFFF (Frequently Asked Questions), and Choc Classica’s award for best recording of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. His partners are Amaury Coeytaux on violin, Raphaël Perraud on cello, Nicolas Baldeyrou on clarinet, Antoine Dreyfus on horn, and the Hermès Quartet. He recently joined the Arcadis Trio.


During the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons, he was artist-in-residence at the Metz Arsenal, collaborating on numerous concerts and recordings with the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est under the direction of David Reiland. In 2022, his recording of Brahms’s First Piano Concerto also received Télérama’s FFFF.

His engagements have taken him around the world to venues such as the Great Hall of the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, the Hong Kong Concert Hall, and the National Theatre in Bangkok. He has been a soloist with, among others, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bangkok Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de Metz. He is a frequent guest at venues including the Maison de la Radio auditorium, the Musée d’Orsay auditorium, the Opéra Bastille amphitheater, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, the Philharmonie de Paris amphitheater, the Théâtre de l’Athénée, and the Salle Gaveau.

He is also a regular performer at numerous festivals, including Piano aux Jacobins, the Menton Festival, the Saintes Festival, the Radio France and Montpellier Festival, the Lille Piano Festival, the Folles Journées de Nantes, L’Esprit du Piano, and the Printemps des Arts Festival. Monte Carlo, “Piano en Valois,” the Chopin Festival of Nohant and Bagatelle, the Epau Festival, “Piano à Lyon,” the Messiaen Festival in the Meije region, the Eygalières Festival, Lisztomanias, the Salon-de-Provence International Chamber Music Festival…

He completed a brilliant academic career at the Paris Conservatory (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris) in the classes of Michel Béroff, Denis Pascal, Eric Le Sage, Nicholas Angelich, Christian Ivaldi, and Marie-Françoise Bucquet. He also received guidance in masterclasses from Dmitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, Christoph Eschenbach, John Perry, and others.
