The orchestral conducting class of Julien Masmondet explores major repertoire works, French pieces, and contemporary creations. Thanks to partnerships with the ensemble Les Apaches! and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Massy, students work with leading professional musicians. Sessions with the Chœur de Grenelle and Chœur AEDES also provide opportunities to practice with top-level vocal ensembles.
Each level includes complementary teaching units, which may be mandatory or optional depending on the chosen curriculum. Study equivalencies may be granted.
PRE-SELECTION
Pre-selection is based on application materials submitted before May 4, 2026. Please send the following documents to quentin.molto@gmail.com:
- Musical curriculum vitae (in French or English)
- Motivation letter (in French or English)
- Videos of conducting in action
- Artistic work (instrumental or vocal performance video, composition, etc.)
ADMISSION
Pre-selected candidates will be invited to register for the entrance examination on May 18 at ENMP (9:30 AM – 4:45 PM).
The exam includes:
- Conducting (two pianos): Frank Martin – Mass for Double Choir (Sanctus) ; Beethoven – Symphony No. 7, 1st movement
- Rhythmic and/or sight-singing reading
- Harmony
- Listening commentary
Candidates who cannot travel (with valid justification) may be admitted remotely following an interview with the professors.

- Conducting technique
- Analysis and score study
- Conducting sessions with one and two pianos
- Filmed conducting sessions with professional musicians
- Video analysis
GENERAL ORGANIZATION
- Classes are held on Mondays
- A maximum of 10 students per class
- Work sessions are structured over three weeks (10 sessions per year):
- 1st session: score study
- 2nd session: conducting with two pianos
- 3rd session: conducting a professional ensemble
