CORREAS Jérôme
Presentation

Jérôme Correas received dual training as a harpsichordist and a singer. A student of the harpsichordist and musicologist Antoine Geoffroy-Dechaume, he was awarded First Prize in Baroque Singing at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in William Christie’s class, followed by a prize in Opera Performance in Xavier Depraz’s class. He continued his training with René Jacobs at the Studio Versailles Opéra and at the École d’Art Lyrique of the Paris Opera.

From 1989 to 1993, he was a member of Les Arts Florissants, and went on to perform under the direction of numerous conductors in both the operatic and baroque repertoires.

In 2001, Jérôme Correas turned to conducting and founded Les Paladins, an ensemble specializing in dramatic musical repertoire from Monteverdi to Mozart. He has conducted numerous operas by Monteverdi, Marazzoli, Cavalli, Lully, Desmarest, Destouches, Rameau, Handel, Pergolesi, Grétry, and Haydn, extending even into the Romantic period with works by Clapisson. His innovative artistic approach is grounded in the theatricality of the voice and the interplay between music and the performing arts.

Jérôme Correas is also regularly invited to conduct orchestras in France and abroad, including the Teatro Massimo Bellini Orchestra in Catania, the Rouen Opera Orchestra, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Baroque Orchestra, the Nice-Côte d’Azur Philharmonic Orchestra, and I Cameristi della Scala. In March 2022, he conducted the Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of the Nice-Côte d’Azur Opera in Lully’s Phaéton, in a staging by Éric Oberdoff. With this same orchestra, he has initiated a long-term collaboration focused on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Named a Chevalier of Arts and Letters in 2011, Jérôme Correas has always been committed to sharing his art with young audiences and aspiring professionals. He has directed the Atelier Lyrique of the Opéra de Massy since 2017, and regularly gives masterclasses at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He also leads the baroque singing workshop at the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
