The École Normale de Musique de Paris is opening a new Music Aesthetics Class, taught by Danielle Cohen-Levinas.
This two-year programme invites students to deepen their understanding of music and reflect on their own artistic practice, combining philosophy, musical analysis and the history of aesthetic thought.
The course explores key concepts in music aesthetics — beauty, taste, judgement, form, expression, interpretation, reception, and the relationship between music and language — alongside the reading and discussion of philosophical texts. A dedicated section also focuses on the musical experience.
The programme aims to provide students with the tools to develop a critical and personal perspective on their artistic practice, while acquiring methods for analysing and critically engaging with texts and musical works.
