Renowned for his dazzling technique and vivid imagination, Jean-Philippe Sylvestre has been described as a “poet of the piano” by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. A native of Sainte-Julie, Quebec, he has built an active international career, performing regularly throughout Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa.

Recipient of the Virginia Parker Prize, the highest distinction awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts, he has also won First Prize and the Audience Award at the Concours de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, as well as several First Prizes at the Canadian Music Competition, where he once received the competition’s highest score. He is also a laureate of the international Concertino Praga Competition.

Jean-Philippe Sylvestre has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Musikverein and Ehrbar-Saal in Vienna, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Rudolfinum in Prague, Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Kings Place in London, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He has also appeared at major venues across South America and Oceania, including Teatro Mayor in Colombia, Theatro Municipal and Teatro B32 in Brazil, and the Recital Hall in Sydney.

In Canada, he regularly performs at Maison symphonique de Montréal and has been invited several times to Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and Salle Bourgie in Montreal, Glenn Gould Studio and George Weston Hall in Toronto, as well as the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Mr. Sylvestre has recorded several albums, including one as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, released on the Chandos label. He has collaborated with numerous renowned conductors, including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jacques Lacombe, Christian Schulz, Richard Bradshaw, Simon Streatfeild, Fabien Gabel, Rolf Bertsch, and Boris Brott, to name but a few. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have been nominated for both JUNO Awards and ADISQ Awards.

His recent tours of China, South Africa, South America, Australia, and Europe have met with great success. Jean-Philippe Sylvestre regularly gives masterclasses around the world, including at several conservatories and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
