AS PART OF THE RENCONTRES MUSICALES DE CORTOT
The School’s season featuring today’s great soloists and tomorrow’s stars

The École Normale de Musique de Paris welcomes Jean-Philippe Collard for a piano masterclass on Gabriel Fauré with students from the school’s advanced classes.

Born in Champagne into a music-loving family, Jean-Philippe Collard began his training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 10, in Pierre Sancan’s class. Winner of numerous international competitions, he finds himself thrust to the forefront of the international music scene.

From his friend, the master Vladimir Horowitz, he learnt the secret of deep, sustained singing, making him a virtuoso of lyricism in halftone, of warm, vibrant confidence.

Today, with a discography of over sixty titles, Jean-Philippe Collard performs on the world’s great musical stages – from Carnegie Hall to the Teatro Colon, from the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to the Royal Albert Hall. Well-known to French and American audiences alike, he has worked with some of the world’s greatest conductors.

A lover of encounters, Jean-Philippe Collard confesses a penchant for chamber music, where lifelong complicities are forged.

Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur since 2003, he is currently professor of piano at the École normale de musique de Paris, and teaches in the Élite program.
