Presentation

Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Bruno Rigutto and at the Hochschule Hanns Eisler in Berlin under Michael Endres. He also received guidance from Yonty Solomon at the Royal College of Music in London and Elisso Virsaladze at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He made his orchestral debut at the age of 13, performing Mendelssohn’s First Piano Concerto with the Orchestre Colonne under the baton of Bertrand de Billy.

Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt’s piano travels through all territories and genres, from Baroque music to contemporary compositions. A glance at his concerts around the world reveals the portrait of a tireless seeker—profound, curious, and open to all horizons, regions, and aesthetics.

He is a guest of prestigious orchestras, including the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine under Paul Daniel, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (SBYOV) under Christian Vásquez, and the Saint-Étienne Opera Orchestra. Fonlupt has performed in major venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Bordeaux Auditorium, Salamanca Hall in Japan, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Beijing Forbidden City Concert Hall, and in many concert halls across China.

He regularly appears at major festivals in France, including the La Roque d’Anthéron Festival, La Folle Journée in Nantes, Esprit du Piano in Bordeaux, the Nohant Chopin Festival, Piano aux Jacobins, the Berlioz Festival, the Abbaye de l’Épau, Les Jeudis Musicaux de Royan, Piano en Valois, the “Lisztomanias” in Châteauroux, and the Sully Festival. His international engagements have taken him to Italy, Belgium, Germany, the United States, and South Korea.

In 2022, he recorded the album Ballets for the La Dolce Volta label, featuring works by Ravel, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev. His other recordings, devoted to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt, have received the highest praise in magazines such as Diapason, Classica, and Gramophone, and are frequently broadcast on classical radio stations.

His interest in contemporary music has led him to premiere several works by French composer Florentine Mulsant, including her 11 Préludes and her Sonata for Cello and Piano.
