Marie-Thérèse Keller began her vocal studies at the Strasbourg Conservatoire, where she was awarded First Prizes in Voice and Lyric Art, as well as a Chamber Music Prize in Baroque repertoire. Simultaneously, she pursued studies in English and German at the University of Strasbourg. She later joined the Paris Opera School, where she studied with Hans Hotter and Denise Dupleix. During this period, she performed in numerous productions at the Paris Opera, the Opéra Comique, and various other French and international theatres.

Among Marie-Thérèse Keller’s many roles, highlights include Concepción (L’Heure Espagnole), which she performed in Toulouse under the baton of Michel Plasson, at the Opéra Comique, and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Siébel (Faust by Gounod), the title role in Mignon by Ambroise Thomas, Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Mallika (Lakmé, alongside Natalie Dessay), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), and Marie de l’Incarnation (Dialogues des Carmélites). She has worked regularly with renowned conductors including Michel Plasson, Armin Jordan, Marek Janowski, Alain Lombard, Paul Ethuin, and Simon Rattle. A frequent guest at the Opéra Bastille, she has appeared in Katia Kabanova, The Queen of Spades, Adriana Lecouvreur, Madama Butterfly, and Lucia di Lammermoor.

She took part in the production of La Vierge by Massenet at the Saint-Étienne Festival, which was recorded, and received great acclaim for her performance in Nino Rota’s Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze at the Opéra de Nice.

She was invited to the Théâtre du Châtelet for Janáček’s Jenůfa and for the world premiere of 60e Parallèle by Philippe Manoury. She later sang the role of Annio in La Clemenza di Tito in Rennes and Lucretia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at the Grand Théâtre de Tours. She was invited by the Opéra de Lyon, where she notably reprised the role of Concepción in L’Heure Espagnole. In Nancy, she participated in the world premiere of Un Tango pour Monsieur Lautrec by George Zulueta and performed the role of the Cook in The Nightingale by Stravinsky at the Théâtre des Arts in Rouen.

She made her debut as Charlotte in Werther at the Opéra de Metz to great acclaim, as Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande at the Opéra de Rennes and the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara (under Marc Minkowski), Jenůfa at the Opéra de Nancy, Véronique by Messager at the Opéra de Lausanne, Juliette ou La Clé des Songes by Martinů at the Paris Opera, and the title role in La Belle Hélène at the Grand Théâtre de Tours. She has sung Verdi’s Requiem at Théâtre Mogador and the title role in Carmen at the Baalbek Festival, the Third Lady in The Magic Flute at the Opéra de Marseille, Diane in Les Aventures du Roi Pausole at the Opéra Comique, and Flora in La Traviata at the Opéra Bastille. In June 2009, she portrayed Madame d’Épinay in Reynaldo Hahn’s Mozart at the Spoleto Festival, in a production by Pier Luigi Pizzi, and took part in the recording of Le Cœur du Moulin by Déodat de Séverac with the Orchestre Symphonique de Tours (conducted by Jean-Yves Ossonce), which received several awards, including a Diapason d’Or.

In 2010, at the Opéra Bastille, Marie-Thérèse Keller appeared in Puccini’s Il Trittico (Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi) under Philippe Jordan, as well as in Lulu and The Bartered Bride at the Opéra Garnier, where she also gave a recital for young audiences.

Marie-Thérèse Keller frequently performs in recital, focusing on French mélodie and German Lieder. She performed Das Lied von der Erde under Cyril Diederich at La Filature in Mulhouse and at the Quercy-Saint-Céré Festival.

She will make her debut at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in July 2025 in Louise by Gustave Charpentier, with a revival at the Opéra de Lyon in January 2026.

Marie-Thérèse Keller is a voice professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris.

She previously taught at the Montbéliard Conservatoire (2012–2019), and from 2007 to 2018, she also taught “the singer’s physical work” and French diction at the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin. Since 2017, she has participated annually in the masterclasses of the French Institute in Kyoto, as part of the Académie de musique française.

She regularly gives vocal masterclasses in France and abroad.
