Throughout her career as a pianist and pedagogue—currently heading a class at the École Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot—Marie-Catherine Girod has established herself as a singular artist through her distinctive repertoire choices. These span from the great classical works (Chopin, Mendelssohn, Weber, Franck, d’Indy…) to lesser-known composers (Decaux, Bax, Bowen, Lourié, Le Flem, Emmanuel, Ferroud, Tournemire, Marek, Dupont, Samazeuilh…) and major 20th-century figures (Auric, Dutilleux, Jolivet…).
Her bold yet flawless technique has earned her high praise, as evidenced by around fifty critically acclaimed recordings. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including Grand Prizes from the Académie Charles Cros and the Académie du Disque Français, as well as several Diapason d’or and Choc de Classica distinctions.
From La Folle Journée in Nantes and Tokyo to the Roque-d’Anthéron Piano Festival, from the “Raritäten der Klaviermusik” festival in Husum to the Chopin Festival and many other appearances, particularly in Japan and the United States, she continuously expands her repertoire. Her most recent album, Regards de Femmes (Mirare), dedicated to works by seventeen female composers spanning two centuries, offers a fresh perspective on her inspired artistry.
Marie-Catherine Girod is a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters and Commander of the National Order of Merit.
