Praised for \u201chis high-flying interpretations, with pure intonation, even tone, and astonishing ease\u201d (Costin Cazaban, Le Monde de la Musique<\/em>), Pierre Lenert founded the Lenert-Hirose Duo<\/strong> in 2020, uniting two musicians of exceptional artistry. Etsuko Hirose and Pierre Lenert first met in 2015 around Brahms\u2019 Op. 120 sonatas. Their musical affinity and complicity were immediately evident. Their debut recording, Passion<\/em>, naturally blossomed from these two masterpieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, Pierre Lenert also founded the Lenert-Fantasy-Group<\/strong>, bringing together musicians of remarkable human and musical qualities. With this ensemble, he sought to revisit lyrical repertoire masterpieces and share original interpretations of works by Aznavour, Trenet, and Brassens, arranged in unique versions by Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Sans and R\u00e9gis Prudhomme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis natural sense of Bel Canto, superb instrumental mastery and radiant tone colour bring charm and brilliance to each piece\u2026 With an elegant style, full of wit and good humour\u201d (Diapason<\/em>), Pierre Lenert is currently the only violist in Europe to have recorded Niccol\u00f2 Paganini\u2019s 24 Caprices<\/strong> on viola, released by Paraty \u2014 the first such recording since Emmanuel Vardi\u2019s 1965 version on Epic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His discography includes the complete works for viola and piano by Henry Vieuxtemps<\/strong>, along with several recital albums dedicated to the music of Carl Reinecke, Niccol\u00f2 Paganini, Felix Mendelssohn, Georges Enescu, Jean Fran\u00e7aix, Darius Milhaud, Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms<\/strong> and Joseph Joachim<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His encounter with Yehudi Menuhin<\/strong> was a turning point: under Menuhin\u2019s baton, he performed Berlioz\u2019s Harold in Italy<\/em> and Bart\u00f3k\u2019s Viola Concerto, and became a soloist with the Menuhin Foundation. Pierre Lenert is also a laureate of the Philipp Morris Foundation<\/strong>, and of major international competitions including Lionel Tertis, Markneukirchen,<\/strong> and Maurice Vieux<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierre Lenert is Artistic Director<\/strong> of the S\u00e9r\u00e9nade International Chamber Music Festival<\/em> and the Le Go\u00fbt de la Musique Festival<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been Professor at the \u00c9cole Normale de Musique\u2013Alfred Cortot<\/strong> since 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierre currently plays a Philippe Mahu viola (2018)<\/strong>, after performing for nearly 30 years on the magnificent Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume viola (1865), \u201cComte Cheremeti\u00e8v\u201d<\/strong>, from 1994 to 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
