After winning First Prize at the Johannes Brahms International Competition in 2005, Geoffroy Couteau recorded the complete solo piano works of Brahms for the La Dolce Volta label. This recording caused a sensation, ranking among the best recordings of 2016. The entire specialized press recognized this discographic endeavor: Classica’s “Choc de l’ann\u00e9e” (Shock of the Year), T\u00e9l\u00e9rama’s “FFFF” (Fourth Fifty-Five), Pianiste Maestro (Pianist Maestro), and the Radio Classique trophy. The international press also distinguished him with five stars from the German magazine FonoForum and the prestigious Geijtsu Record in Japan. German radio stations MDR and SWR praised his playing and personality. Le Monde, Le Figaro, L’Express, and Les \u00c9chos raved about the quality of his interpretation and the depth of his commitment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geoffroy Couteau then embarked on recording the complete chamber music of Brahms with piano. This project has garnered the highest accolades through its various publications: Diapason d\u2019Or awards, T\u00e9l\u00e9rama\u2019s FFFF (Frequently Asked Questions), and Choc Classica\u2019s award for best recording of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. His partners are Amaury Coeytaux on violin, Rapha\u00ebl Perraud on cello, Nicolas Baldeyrou on clarinet, Antoine Dreyfus on horn, and the Herm\u00e8s Quartet. He recently joined the Arcadis Trio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the 2022\/2023 and 2023\/2024 seasons, he was artist-in-residence at the Metz Arsenal, collaborating on numerous concerts and recordings with the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est under the direction of David Reiland. In 2022, his recording of Brahms\u2019s First Piano Concerto also received T\u00e9l\u00e9rama\u2019s FFFF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His engagements have taken him around the world to venues such as the Great Hall of the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, the Hong Kong Concert Hall, and the National Theatre in Bangkok. He has been a soloist with, among others, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bangkok Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de Metz. He is a frequent guest at venues including the Maison de la Radio auditorium, the Mus\u00e9e d’Orsay auditorium, the Op\u00e9ra Bastille amphitheater, the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Bordeaux, the Philharmonie de Paris amphitheater, the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de l’Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e, and the Salle Gaveau. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He completed a brilliant academic career at the Paris Conservatory (Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Musique de Paris) in the classes of Michel B\u00e9roff, Denis Pascal, Eric Le Sage, Nicholas Angelich, Christian Ivaldi, and Marie-Fran\u00e7oise Bucquet.
