Born in Baltimore, Jeff Cohen won first prizes in piano and chamber music at the Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Musique de Paris before continuing his training with Leon Fleisher in the United States and Peter Feuchtwanger in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, he has served as coach at La Monnaie in Brussels, musical director at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet, and advisor to the Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France for a concert series devoted to French m\u00e9lodie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has performed with many artists, including Roberto Alagna, June Anderson, Cecilia Bartoli, Yann Beuron, Jean-Paul Fouch\u00e9court, V\u00e9ronique Gens, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel, Sumi Jo, Steve Lacy, No\u00ebl Lee, Ute Lemper, Pierre L\u00e9nert, Vincent Le Texier, Mady Mespl\u00e9, and Didier Sandre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has made numerous recordings, including a \u201clive\u201d recital at La Scala in Milan with Angela Gheorghiu; songs by Duparc, Faur\u00e9, Hahn, Gounod, and Loeffler with Fran\u00e7ois Le Roux; and Mozart lieder on the fortepiano with V\u00e9ronique Dietschy. He has worked as vocal coach on opera recordings with Bertrand de Billy, Christopher Hogwood, John Nelson, Michel Plasson, and Georg Solti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeff Cohen conducted the orchestra for The Threepenny Opera<\/em> directed by Giorgio Strehler at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet, assisted Myung-Whun Chung for Otello<\/em> at the Op\u00e9ra National de Paris, and collaborated with Patrice Ch\u00e9reau on Hamlet<\/em>and Lucio Silla<\/em>. He appeared in Peter Brook\u2019s Impressions de Pell\u00e9as<\/em> and performed with Fanny Ardant in Masterclass<\/em>, directed by Roman Polanski. He served as musical studies director for Kurt Weill\u2019s Street Scene<\/em> with the Atelier lyrique of the Op\u00e9ra National de Paris and toured with choreographer Blanca Li in her production Le Jardin des d\u00e9lices<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He composes for stage and film and created and hosted a children\u2019s television program, Jeff d\u2019orchestre<\/em>, after collaborating with Philippe Meyer on Revenez quand vous voulez<\/em> and Anicroches<\/em> for French television.
