Honored Artist of Russia, winner of only\u00a0First Prizes\u00a0in international competitions,\u00a0Ludmila Berlinskaya\u00a0has performed on the world\u2019s most prestigious stages, among them the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs-Elys\u00e9es, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, the Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall in London, La Fenice in Venice, the Royal Academy in Brussels, the National Auditorium in Madrid, City Hall in Hong Kong, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, as well as the greatest halls of Moscow, where she grew up. She is a regular guest at major festivals such as La Roque d\u2019Anth\u00e9ron, the Festivals of Colmar, Auvers-sur-Oise, Aix-en-Provence, Evian, Kuhmo, Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Orlando, Stavanger, Portogruaro, and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having played with the\u00a0Borodin Quartet\u00a0from the age of 14, chamber music is an essential part of her artistic life. She has performed with some of the greatest names on the international classical scene, such as\u00a0Mstislav Rostropovich, Yuri Bashmet, Ivry Gitlis\u2026, as well as with several generations of outstanding soloists, including\u00a0Jean-Jacques Kantorow, G\u00e9rard Causs\u00e9, Paul Meyer, Alexander Kniazev, Gautier Capu\u00e7on, Henri Demarquette, Boris Andrianov, Aylen Pritchin, Alena Baeva, Valentin Uryupin, Christian-Pierre La Marca\u2026. She has given a very large number of quintet concerts with quartets such as\u00a0Modigliani, Van Kuijk, Orlando, Fine Arts, Ard\u00e9o, Danel, St. Petersburg, New Russian, RusQuartet\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raised among the Soviet cultural elite, her father being\u00a0Valentin Berlinsky, cellist and founder of the Borodin Quartet, Ludmila Berlinskaya studied brilliantly at the\u00a0Gnessin School\u00a0and then at the\u00a0Moscow Conservatory. Immersed since childhood in the music of\u00a0Shostakovich, she is today considered one of its finest interpreters, with the complete chamber works with piano in her repertoire, including rare or unpublished works, which she has performed worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She had the privilege of being part of the extremely select circle surrounding pianist\u00a0Sviatoslav Richter, with whom she played four hands, whom she once replaced for his own production of Britten\u2019s\u00a0The Turn of the Screw<\/em>, and who was a guiding influence in the affirmation of her artistic freedom. Within her extensive discography, Ludmila Berlinskaya has recorded works by\u00a0Rachmaninov, Glinka, Schnittke, Mendelssohn, Jan\u00e1\u010dek, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Scriabin, Liszt, Schumann, Beethoven, Medtner, Ravel\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since 2013, as a\u00a0Melodiya artist, she has recorded nine albums for the label and has received numerous awards, including the\u00a0Choc<\/em>\u00a0from\u00a0Classica<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Editor\u2019s Choice<\/em>\u00a0from\u00a0Gramophone<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since 2011, she has formed a\u00a0piano duo\u00a0with pianist\u00a0Arthur Ancelle, an ensemble that seems perfectly natural given the profound artistic and personal understanding between them. Their recordings have been widely acclaimed by the international press, and they are invited both by festivals (Tokyo Spring Festival, Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad\u2026) and prestigious orchestras (St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra\u2026). Together, they founded the\u00a0\u201cLa Cl\u00e9 des Portes\u201d Festival\u00a0in the enchanting setting of the Loire Valley castles, as well as the\u00a0Rungis Piano-Piano Festival, entirely dedicated to the repertoire for two pianos and four hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2014, Ludmila Berlinskaya received in France the\u00a0Trofemina Prize for International Woman of the Year, honoring her exceptional commitment to promoting music and the arts, as well as the many cultural bridges she has built between Russia and France.
