After completing his musical studies in his hometown of Caen, Christophe Coin entered the Conservatoire de Paris, where he was awarded a First Prize in Cello in 1974 (class of Andr\u00e9 Navarra). He then dedicated himself to the study of early music at the Vienna Academy and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he studied the viola da gamba with Jordi Savall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between 1977 and 1983, he was in high demand by most European ensembles specializing in early music repertoires, performing notably with Nikolaus Harnoncourt\u2019s Concentus Musicus Wien, Jordi Savall\u2019s Hesp\u00e8rion XX, and Christopher Hogwood\u2019s Academy of Ancient Music. His curiosity and passion for all forms of art have led him to collaborate in film (The Blue Note<\/em> by Andrzej \u017bu\u0142awski, Tous les matins du monde<\/em> by Alain Corneau), ballet (including Bach Suite<\/em> in duo with Rudolf Nureyev in 1984), and theatre: Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme<\/em> by Moli\u00e8re (2014), works by Maeterlinck (2015), and Marivaux (2018\u20132019), all staged by Denis Podalyd\u00e8s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside his solo career, Christophe Coin gives numerous chamber music concerts as a member of the Quatuor Mosa\u00efques, which he founded in 1984, as well as in duo and trio formations (pianoforte, violin, cello), notably with Patrick Cohen and Erich H\u00f6barth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Appointed Director of the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges in 1991, Christophe Coin has made around thirty recordings.
