A FAMOUS PLACE TO LEARN MUSIC

The ECOLE NORMALE DE MUSIQUE was founded in 1919 by the famous pianist Alfred Cortot and his partner Auguste Mangeot. Since the very beginning, the institution has created an outstanding world-wide reputation for itself through the quality of its music instruction, which has been perfected through faculty members such as Pablo Casals, Nadia Boulanger, Wanda Landowska, Paul Dukas and Arthur Honegger.

Over the years, it has trained a number of well known concertists and composers, including Dinu Lipatti, Samson François and Igor Markevitch, who are among many other famous musicians to have studied in the Belle Epoque architectural environment surrounding this Parisian temple of classical music.

At present, the ECOLE NORMALE DE MUSIQUE has 1100 students and 140 faculty members, who teach all disciplines of classical music, including theoretical classes, orchestra conducting and composition.
The School is currently managed by Henri Heugel.

Since 1919, the School is officially approved by the Ministry of Education and Fine Arts and patronized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste (DSC) award leads to the national recognition of « Musicien professionnel » registered at the highest level (level 1) of the « Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles.
